Correlation between Atmospheric Storage Tank Bottom Corrosion Rate and Acoustic Emission Activity

    • Acoustic emission (AE) on-line testing is a nondestructive testing (NDT) technology to evaluate the tank bottom corrosion without opening the atmospheric storage tank (AST),the degree of tank corrosion can be classified based on the inspection results.Through the analysis of the acoustic emission signal amplitude distribution and tank bottom corrosion thickness loss distribution,it is found that the two distributions have similar power function form, indicating that the bottom corrosion has fractal dimension characteristic.According to the correlation, the floor corrosion rate of the tank bottom can be quantitatively described, and its residual life can be further predicted by acoustic emission activity.
