Progress in Research on Stress Corrosion Cracking of Mg Alloys

    • Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is a common failure when Mg alloys are applied in corrosive environments. The SCC mechanisms of Mg alloys as well as the main causes such as anodic dissolution, hydrogen induced embrittlement and stress are discussed. The latest methods for controlling the SCC of Mg alloys at home and abroad are introduced, including the quality improvement of the constituents, surface treatment, reducing and eliminating stress, and microstructure control (particularly microstructure ultra-fining).The direction and critical problems of the present studying of improving the resistance to SCC of Mg alloys are also put forward.
