Structural Characteristics of Co-Mn Coating Prepared by High Energy Micro-Arc Alloying Process

    • To improve the high-temperature oxidation resistance of stainless steel, restrict Cr migration effectively and make it applied to solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) interconnect, Co-Mn alloying layer was prepared on 304 stainless steel (304SS) by high-energy micro-arc alloying (HEMMA). The most available deposition parameters, such as voltage, frequency, power and time, were gotten by studying the mass change regulation vs every parameter, respectively. The morphology and element analysis of the deposited-coating tested by SEM and EDX showed that the Co-40Mn alloying layer bonded well to the substrate. A (CoMn)3O4 spinel layer was developed on the surface of the coated-304SS sample after 800 ℃ high temperature oxidation for 2 h, which will increase the oxidation resistance of 304SS effectively and satisfy the requirement of SOFC interconnect.
