Advances in Application of Petrolatum Tape Cover Anticorrosion Technology in China

The application fields of petrolatum tape cover (PTC) anticorrosion technology in China are reriewed, and economy and safety of this technology are analyzed. It is proposed that the development and application of anticorrosion industry should focus on comprehensive control by multi-technique and by a combination of key governance and conventional protection. The petrolatum tape cover anticorrosion technology has many advantages, such as low requirements surface treatment, acclimatization, structure adaptability, long-term anticorrosion and low full-life cost. It is a powerful supplement to the technical limitations of paint and coating on critical part of steel structures and facilities, such as marine steel structures exposed to splash zone, butt welded pipeline joints, valves, offshore aerogenerator foundation, and so on. The PTC anticorrosion technology forms comprehensive and long-term protection to protected objects, together with the other traditional anticorrosion technologies.
