Residual Strength Evaluation of Pipeline with Pitting Corrosion Based on API579 Criterion

    • In order to evaluate the residual strength of pipelines with pitting corrosion more accurately, maintain the pipelines more scientifically and reasonably as well as enhance the utilization of pipelines, several evaluation methods for the residual stress of pipelines with pitting were compared, and it was concluded that the API579 criterion was more useful in evaluating the residual strength of pipelines with pitting. Three grades of evaluation for the residual strength of pipelines with pitting were performed based on the API579 criterion. The maximum operating pressure of pipelines at the given defects was obtained through calculation. The pressure value reflects the pressure-bearing capacity of pipelines with pitting corrosion. It turns out that the method of assessing the remaining strength of the pipelines with pitting corrosion defect in API579 is reasonable.
