Abstract
A new Schiff base 1,1'-dicinnamylidene-hydrazine (DCH) as acid inhibitor was prepared through condensation reaction using hydrazine hydrate and cinnamaldehyde. The chemical structure of DCH was confirmed by elementary analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FI-RT) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The corrosion inhibitive performance of the inhibitor for N80 steel in 15% HCl solution were investigated by static weight loss method and electrochemical methods. The results indicated that DCH was a mixed acid inhibitor and could effectively inhibit the corrosion in acid solution by forming protective layer on N80 surface. The corrosion rate and inhibitive efficiency reached 2.27 g·m-2·h-1 and 99.81% respectively, when the dosage of DCH was 0.75%. The adsorption process of DCH ont the steel surface obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
