    Effect of Surface Roughening on Chemical Nickel-plating on Zirconia Precision Ceramic

    • Surface roughening and chemical nickel-plating were conducted on the surface of zirconia precision ceramic substrate for ornaments. The influences of HF concentration and soaking time on surface roughening effect of ceramic were studied, and the relationships between surface roughness and nickel-plating morphology or bonding strength were detected. The results show that the surface roughness of zirconia ceramic increased with the increase of HF concentration and the extension of soaking time, and exhibited the characteristic that roughening rate at the early immersion or high HF concentration was faster. With the increase of the surface roughness, chemical nickel-plating gradually turned to cellular growth way, and the bonding strength also improved continually.
