Corrosion Behavior of Galvanized Steels in Different Atmospheric Environments

    • Galvanized steels were exposed in 13 atmospheric sites in China for 8 a, the surface morphology was observed, surface rating was carried out, corrosion rate was tested and the corrosion rate ratio of carbon steel to galvanized steels was calculated. The results showed that the surface of all galvanized steels got dark, the change was little in Lasa and Dunhuang, but rusting appeared in Qingdao and Jiangjin and the most serious corrosion appeared in Wanning. The order of corrosion rate in 13 sites was: Wanning > Wuhan > Qingdao > Shenyang > Guangzhou > Jiangjin > Beijing > Qionghai > Xishuangbanna > Kuerle > Mohe>Dunhuang > Lasa. By calculating, the corrosion rate ratio of carbon steel to galvanized steels was between 9.2 to 2 000.0. In practical application, the thickness of galvanized steel should be different for the different environmental conditions.
