Corrosion Mechanism of Wires Used for Transmission and Transformation Project

    • Serious corrosion of wires used in a transmission project appeared. The corrosion product was white colloidal fine particles. The composition of corrosion products and mechanism of corrosion were explored by means of physical and chemical analysis and simulation test. The results show that Cl was the main element leading to the corrosion of the wire, and the second phase particles dispersed in the wire accelerated the corrosion process. Accordingly, some suggestions for avoiding the wire corrosion in the process of manufacture, transport and use were proposed.
