Abstract
After a deepwater jacket for some gas field in the South China Sea launched for 1 000 days, the potentials of the parts in deepwater area were below cathodic protection potential, making the jacket in corrosion risk. The impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system with remote auxiliary anodes was chosen as the final retrofitting method of cathodic protection (CP) by comparing common CP retrofitting methods and combining with the characteristics of typhoons in the South China Sea and the water depth of the jacket. And the design and installation process of ICCP system with remote auxiliary anodes were introduced. The results show that potentials of the jacket reached the protection potential soon and the consumption rate of sacrificial anodes reduced dramatically after the ICCP system with remote auxiliary anodes was installed.
