Reason for Perforation of Gathering Pipe in a West Oil Field

In order to study and analyze the reason for perforation of an L245 carbon steel gathering pipe used in a western oil field, series physical and chemical property tests were performed. Combined with the actual working condition, comprehensive analysis and research were carried out. The results showed that the medium transported in the gathering pipe contained high content of Cl^- and CO₂, and thus had strong corrosion ability. Due to coating falling out nearby welding area, the carbon steel contacted with the corrosion medium and CO₂ corrosion occurred, which led to the failure of gathering pipe.
