Corrosion Inhibition of Soluble Acrylamide Copolymer

Abstract
The corrosion inhibition of soluble poly (acrylamide-2-acrylamide-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid) (PAA) for Q235 steel in 1 mol/L HCL solution was evaluated by weight-loss method, electrochemical method and morphology characterization methods. The results showed that PAA had good corrosion inhibition, and the corrosion rate increased with the increase of PAA. When the content of inhibitor was 500 mg/L, corrosion inhibition efficiency could reach up to 91%. PAA acted as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor, in the meanwhile, it had excellent aftereffect. The corrosion inhibitor molecules could be adsorbed on the metal surface, forming a hydrophobic layer of protective film, so as to slow down the metal corrosion. The adsorption of inhibitor molecular on the metal surface was in line with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
