Corrosion Failure Analysis of Drainage Pipe of Level Meter in an Oil Field Separator

The corrosion failure reasons for 316L stainless steel drainage pipe of level meter in a western oil field separator were analyzed by chemical composition analysis,metallographic testing,corrosion morphology observation and corrosion product analysis.The results show that the material properties met the requirements of national standard,and the failure was caused by corrosive environment factors,not by the material itself.Stress corrosion cracking caused by cooperation of corrosive substances H₂S,CO₂ and Cl^- was the reason for the corrosion failure of the pipe.
