Effect of Mixed Resin Powders on 6063 Aluminum Alloy Corrosion in Valve Cooling System at Converter Station

    • The effects of mixed resin powders on the corrosion behavior of 6063 aluminum alloy were investigated by immersion corrosion test and electrochemical test. The results showed that with the prolongation of immersion time, the concentrations of decomposition products and soluble substances of anion resin and cation resin increased, and the solution acidified, which resulted in the increase of conductivity and the decrease of pH value for the solution. The current and the mixed resin powders could accelerate the corrosion of 6063 aluminum alloy. The electrochemical tests showed that in the mixed resin powder solution, the free corrosion potential of 6063 aluminum alloy decreased and the free corrosion current density increased. With the prolongation of immersion time, both the radius of tolerance arc in the EIS spectrum and the polarization resistance decreased, which means that the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy was reduced and the corrosion was accelerated. Therefore, in the practical application of the valve cooling system, the corrosion of the mixed resin powders to 6063 aluminum alloy should be considered and the corresponding protective measures should be taken.
