Abstract
The macroscopic damage of transmission tower angle steel corrosion was quantified using mechanical parameters such as residual tensile and compressive stiffness, residual bending stiffness, residual strength and residual buckling stress. Based on finite element numerical method, the effects of four common corrosion types including general corrosion, porous corrosion, regional corrosion and edge corrosion on the mechanical properties of angle steel were quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the tensile and compressive stiffness of angle steel was sensitive to four types of corrosion, while the bending stiffness was sensitive to general corrosion and edge corrosion. Four types of corrosion could weaken the strength of angle steel seriously. General corrosion, regional corrosion and edge corrosion had great influence on the buckling stress of angel steel.
