Research Progress in Self-healing Protective Film for Aluminum Alloy

    • Surface treatment can slow down the corrosion of aluminum alloy and prolong the service time. A new type of aluminum alloy surface self-healing protective film has been developed in recent years at home and abroad. This type of protective film would repair the damaged area by itself and restore the original protective effect when the film on the surface of aluminum alloy was corroded, and thus is considered as a new type of intelligent protective coating. According to the mechanism of action, the self-healing protective film can be divided into two sorts: spontaneous and non-spontaneous, and the self-repairing principles of different sorts of protective films are described in this paper. In addition, the applications of self-healing protective film for aluminum alloy are mainly introduced, the existing problems are discussed and the development trend is prospected.
