Corrosion Causes and Protective Measures of Pipelines in an Oilfield in Northern Shaanxi

    • Through the analysis of the water quality of the produced water in four block stations of an oilfield in northern Shaanxi, combined with on-site coupon test, the corrosion causes of pipelines were studied, and the on-site anti-corrosion technology was researched and evaluated. The results show that the corrosive medium content in the produced water of the block stations was high, which would cause severe corrosion to the surface pipelines. After the application of anti-corrosion measures such as coatings, special joints and linear anode cathodic protection, the inner coating surface of pipelines was smooth, uniform and dense, without broken points, and the protection potential was basically stable and met the standard requirements. The special joints ensured the consistency of corrosion resistance of welding interface and pipe body, and solved the problem of pipeline welding damage to the interface coating. After the implementation of coating and cathodic protection anti-corrosion measures, the total production and operation costs could be saved by more than 34%.
