Present Status and Prospect of the Chemical Treatment of Component Cooling Water in the Nuclear Island of Nuclear Power Station

    • Component cooling system is an essential closed cooling system in nuclear power station. Chemical treatment and controlling water quality based on standard are important measures to prevent materials corrosion and fouling in cooling system. In order to guide the optimization and innovation of chemical treatments of component cooling water, on-site survey and literature investigation are employed to summarize and investigate the chemical treatments applied to nuclear power station and their imperfectness. The results indicated that the main purpose of chemical treatment of component cooling water is anti corrosion of materials. Adding inhibitors or water treatments are recommended by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for the anticorrosion treatment of the closed water system. In the nuclear power station of our country, adding inhibitor is the main measure to prevent the corrosion of materials. With the passage of time, chromates, phosphate, nitrites and molybdate are added as inhibitors stage by stage. The main problems for component cooling systems are the Fe content in circulating water exceeding the standard and the corrosion of copper.
