Influence of Chlorine Ion on Corrosion Behavior of Metal Materials Used in Power Plants

    • The research progress of the effect of chloride ion on the corrosion behavior of carbon steel, low-alloy steel and stainless steel commonly used in power stations during power station shutdown (abbreviated as shutdown corrosion) is introduced. The mechanism and influence factors of chloride ion on the shutdown corrosion of carbon steel, low alloy steel and stainless steel are discussed. The results show that the shutdown corrosion mechanisms of carbon steel, low alloy steel and stainless steel are different. The main cause of shutdown corrosion of carbon steel and low alloy steel is the presence of condensed water and dissolved oxygen in the water. The shutdown corrosion of stainless steel is mainly attributed to the concentration of chloride ion in the surface solution medium. Reducing air humidity, forming a film on the metal surface and isolating the air are good ways to inhibit the shutdown corrosion of metal materials induced by chloride ion.
