Abstract
The effects of navicula on electrochemical behavior of reinforced concrete in seawater were studied by surface analysis technique and electrochemical method. The physical model of biofilm covered concrete was proposed. The results show that the formation of biofilm on the concrete surface blocked the micropores in the concrete, and thecorrosive ions could not penetrate into the surface of the steel through the micropores, which had a protective effect on the steel bars. In the later stage, as the biofilm fell off, the protective effect on the steel bars was significantly weakened.
