Properties of Typical Materials for Marine Seawater Pipeline System

    • TUP red copper, B10 copper-nickel alloy and TA2 titanium alloy were selected as typical representative materials for seawater pipelines of ships of the first, second and third generations, and the properties of these three materials were compared by tensile test, seawater long-term immersion test and seawater scouring test. The results showed that:TUP red copper had a single composition and low strength; B10 copper-nickel alloy had excellent strength and plasticity due to the increase of alloying elements. TA2 titanium alloy had relatively high strength, but had no advantage in plasticity. After 16 years of real sea immersion test, TA2 titanium alloy was completely corrosion-resistant, and B10 copper-nickel alloy had better corrosion resistance than TUP copper. Erosion test results showed that TA2 titanium alloy still had excellent corrosion resistance, and the corrosion weight loss of TUP copper and B10 copper-nickel alloy increased with the increase of flow rate. With the increase of flow rate, the potential of TUP copper and B10 copper-nickel alloy fluctuated irregularly, while the potential of TA2 titanium alloy had a positive shift trend.
