Corrosion and Wear Behavior of Fe-19Cr-15Mn-0.66N HNSS in Air and 0.5 mol/L NaCl Solution

Abstract
The corrosion and wear behavior of Fe-19Cr-15Mn-0.66N high nitrogen stainless steel (HNSS) was studied in air and 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution by friction and wear test. The results show that in air and 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution, with the increase of applied load, the friction coefficient of the HNSS gradually decreased and the volume loss of the HNSS increased. The wear mechanisms of the HNSS in air were abrasive wear, oxidation wear and brittle spalling, while it was abrasive wear in 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution. In 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution, the wear rate increased significantly due to the synergistic effect between wear and corrosion.
