Quantitative Evaluation Method on Corrosion Degree of Fragile Bronzes

    • Taking the bronze ware unearthed from Sifangtang in Tonglu Mountain as an example, the density detection of 67 utensils and their fragments were tested, combined with the analysis results of the fractures and cross-sections of the utensils, a scientific and convenient method for evaluating the corrosion degree of bronze utensils was preliminarily explored. The results showed that the smaller the density index of the utensil, the greater the degree of corrosion, and the risk of the utensil becoming fragile bronze also increased. Density index could be used as one of the important quantitative indicators to measure the corrosion degree of utensils.
