Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of S22053 Duplex Stainless Steel Welded Joint by Plasma Arc Welding

    • The 10mm thick S22053 duplex stainless steel was welded by plasma arc welding (PAW). The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of S22053 duplex stainless steel welded joint were studied by microstructure observation, mechanical property test and corrosion test. The results showed that the strength of welded joint reached 814 MPa, and the impact absorption energy at -40 ℃ of weld and heat affected zone was 58 J and 72 J, respectively. The volume fraction of ferrite in weld and heat affected zone was 69% and 62%, respectively. Corrosion test by ASTM A923 A method showed that the corrosion resistance of weld and heat affected zone of welded joint decreased. After testing by ASTM A923 C method, there was no obvious pitting corrosion phenomenon, and the average corrosion rate was 2.761 mg/(dm2·d). The results indicated that S22053 duplex stainless steel welded joint had good comprehensive mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, and plasma deep penetration welding could be used in the welding manufacture of S22053 duplex stainless steel.
