Mechanical Behavior of Buried Pipeline with Corrosion Defects in Mountainous Area

    • A pipeline model with corrosion defects and considering the interaction of pipe-soil was established. The stress and strain of pipelines under different conditions of corrosion defect sizes and soil slip distances were simulated by finite element method, considering the combined action of operating internal pressure and soil slip, and the necessity of considering soil slip was analyzed. The results showed that the stress failure criterion could be used to evaluate the safety state of the pipeline when the soil slip was less than 0.5 m. When the soil slip distance was greater than 0.5 m, it was conservative to evaluate the safe state of pipeline using single failure criterion, so the combination of stress and strain failure criteria was recommended.
