Electrochemical Corrosion Behavior of Low-Carbon Weathering Cold Heading Steels

    • The electrochemical corrosion behavior of the low-carbon weathering cold heading steels was investigated by dynamic potential polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, with conventional low-carbon cold heading steel as a contrast material. The results show that compared with conventional cold heading steel, the low-carbon weathering cold heading steels had higher free corrosion potential, lower free corrosion current density and higher charge transfer resistance, and thus the corrosion resistance improved obviously. With the increase of weatherability index, the free corrosion potential and charge transfer resistance gradually increased, and the free corrosion current density gradually decreased for the low-carbon weathering cold heading steels. A linear positive correlation between free corrosion potential and weatherability index was found for the steels, and the charge transfer resistance of the steels increased rapidly when the weatherability index was greater than 6.388.
