Corrosion of Pipelines in Supercritical CO2 Environment during Carbon Sequestration
-
Abstract
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is crucial for reducing global CO2 emissions and represents an essential pathway for achieving long-term green and low-carbon development in China. However, during CCS operations, pipelines and injection wells are exposed to supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) environments, leading to severe corrosion issues. Effectively mitigating this corrosion has become an urgent challenge. This review summarizes recent research progress on the corrosion of pipeline equipment in SC-CO2 environments, with a focus on the influence of various factors such as water content, salinity, temperature, pressure, flow velocity, and pipe material on corrosion rates and corrosion products. Additionally, corrosion protection methods suitable for SC-CO2 conditions are discussed.
