Characterization of the Surface Interface and Ionic Barrier Properties of Barnacle Cement

    • The composition and structure of barnacles at the interface between barnacles and titanium plates were studied using SEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy, in order to revealing the mechanism of their strong binding with the metal matrix. The ion barrier properties and electronic characteristics were analyzed using electrochemical methods. The results indicate that barnacle cement was composed of composite proteins and CaCO3, presenting a complex network topology structure, and exhibiting N-type semiconductor properties with poor ion barrier properties.
