Modification and Performance of Fluorine-containing Epoxy Vinyl Ester Resin Coatings

    • To study the modification and performance of fluorine-containing epoxy vinyl ester resin coatings, appropriate amount of trifluoroethyl methacrylate and nanosized silica were added into epoxy vinyl ester resin, which was the raw material. Then different fluorine-containing epoxy vinyl ester resin coatings were obtained using benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as the curing agent. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was studied using the tests of weight loss, acid-resisting, alkali-resisting, salt tolerance and chemical reagent resistance. And the contact angles of the coatings were tested by contact angle measuring device. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of the fluorine-containing epoxy vinyl ester resin coatings improved with the increasing content of fluorochemical. And it reached the optimum when the content of fluorochemical was 25%. The corrosion resistance remain unchanged if the content of fluorochemical continued increasing. The contact angles of fluorine-containing epoxy vinyl ester resin coatings increased with the increase of nanosized silica content. It increased to 109° when the nanosized silica content of the total resin reached 10%. It was found that the amount of fluorochemical and nanosized silica used had no obvious effect on the chemical reagent resistance of epoxy vinyl ester resin coatings.
