A Review on Measures for Prolonging the Service Life of Marine Concrete Construction

    • For premature decaying and destroying of reinforced concrete in marine, the measures to protect steel bar from rust and to prolong the service life of marine construction are reviewed from four aspects of concrete protection, steel protection,part-packed seclusion and construction technique. The measures include;high performance concrete, seawater decaying-resist cement, corrosion inhibitors, concrete surface coatings, increase of the thickness of concrete cover, steel bar coatings, antirust tendon, electrochemied protection, glass fiber reinforced plastics or steel seclusion, prevention of early cracking and permeable formwork. The basic principle, characteristic, disadvantage or developing direction and engineering applications of those measures are discussed.High performance Marine concrete is the most economical and irreplaceable measure. The others can be the effective complements of high performance concrete.
