Effects of Potential Scanning Rate on Tested Corrosion Resistance of 304 Stainless Steel

    • Polarization curves of the stainless steel were measured in 3.5% NaCl solution at different potential scanning rates. The corrosion potential, corrosion current density and corrosion rate were obtained by Tafel line extrapolation method and breakdown potential of the passive film was recorded. The results show that the breakdown potential of the passive film on the stainless steel lowered with the increase of potential scanning rate. The corrosion potential decreased and corrosion current density increased when the potential scanning rate increased.
