Corrosion Performance of 13Cr Stainless Steel in High Temperature and High Pressure Environments

Abstract
The corrosion behaviors of 13Cr stainless steel of 110 steel grade, 13Cr 110, were studied by high temperature and high pressure corrosion tests in gas and liquid states of simulated oilfield corrosion environments. The corrosion product scale was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results show that the corrosion rate of the materials increased with increasing the temperature and reached their maximum values in both gas-plase and liquid phase; The corrosion rate in gas was greater than in liquid. The corrosion mode of 13Cr110 steel in liquid was mainly uniform corrosion and a little localized corrosion, in the gas was mainly pitting. Pitting corrosion rate of materials was greater than the uniform rate was in both gas phase and liquid phase. The main composition of corrosion scale of 13Cr110 stainless was Fe-Cr compound; Element Cr was mainly in the form of Cr2O3 in the corrosion product scale.
