Influence of Different Surface Treatments on Coating Properties of Transmission Tower

Abstract
The surface morphologies of rusted transmission line tower substrates with different surface treatments and corroded coating systems were observed by SEM. The influence of different surface treatments of transmission tower on coating properties was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The protective properties of the coating systems was compared and evaluated according to the Bode plots, phase angle at 10 kHz, coating resistance and water absorption. The results showed that the degrees of substrate surface treatment and treatment methods have a great impact on the coating anticorrosion properties as the following order: surface treatments grades: St3>St2, treatment methods: sandpaper>steel brush handling.
