Corrosion Resistance of Plasma Sprayed Cr₂O₃ Coating on Carbon Steel

Cr2O3 coating on carbon steel was prepared by plasma spraying. The micro-structure and corrosion resistance of the sprayed coating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical tests. The results showed that the thickness of the coating was about 100 μm and the phase composition was mainly Cr2O3. The corrosion rate of the Cr2O3 coating decreased dramaticlly after spraying Cr2O3.
