Effect of the Cross Section Shape on the Performance of Sacrificial Anode

    • The effects of six different cross-sectional shapes,i.e.D,circular,ortho hexagonal, square, trapezoidal, and rectangular cross-sectional shapes,on the performance of sacrificial anode were investigated by theoretical calculation and field tests. The results showed that when the cross-sectional shape was rectangle, sacrificial anode provided the maximum cathodic protection current, and reached the minimum current density.Based on this, the effects of length to width ratio (k) on the performance of sacrificial anode were explored. The results showed that the cathodic protection current provided by sacrificial anode increased with increasing of k while the current density of the sacrificial anode increased first and then decreased with increasing of k,and reached the minimum value at k=4.1.
