Corrosion Behavior of 316L Stainless Steel Fibers in Sulfuric Acid

    • Corrosion properties of the 316L stainless steel fiber were studied by the weight loss measuring method in sulfuric acid with various concentrations at different temperatures. The corrosion morphology was observed by SEM and the corrosion products were analyzed by EDS.The results show that the corrosion rate of the 316L stainless steel fiber in 30%-40% sulfuric acid reached the maximum value within the temperature range of 60 ℃ to 70 ℃,and then decreased with increasing the sulfuric acid concentration. When the temperature of solution was below 60 ℃ the corrosion rate changed insignificantly, while the temperature was above 60 ℃,the corrosion rate increased rapidly with increasing temperature. When the corrosion rate was lower, the number of nodules on the fiber increased, while the corrosion rate was higher, the number of nodules became fewer, but the deposition of corrosion product increased. The chromium content kept almost constant after corrosion, but the amount of nickel reduced.
