INHIBITIVE EFFECTS OF MOLYBDENATE ON IRON ARTIFACTS DURING DESALINATION PROCES

    • Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods were used to study the effects of molybdenate inhibitor on electrochemical behavior of simulated cast iron artifacts in alkaline desalination solution. The rust composition of the cast iron specimen after desalination was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The molybdenate inhibitor increased the reaction resistance and decreased the anodic current density. The specimen corrosion was restrained effectively during desalination process. The XPS results indicate that the molybdenate transformed the rust composition.A steady deposit film containing Fe2O3,FeMoO4 and MoO3 formed on the surface of the specimen. It increased the corrosion resistance of the rust layer. And the cast iron matrix was protected perfectly during desalination process.
