Causes of Interior Corrosion in Ultra High Pressure Tubular Reactor

    • In order to study the causes of interior defects in ultra high pressure tubular reactors, microscopic metallurgical structure analysis and hardness test were conducted. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS were used to study the composition and morphology of corrosion products. The results showed that the interior defect was corrosion pit without crack at the bottom, and the corrosion product was mainly iron oxide. The temperature field simulation and steady state thermal analysis were conducted, based on the operating parameters and the position of the corrosion pit. The results showed that the corrosion located on the acetic acid dew point temperature band. The corrosion was caused by acetic acid dew point corrosion during the lay-off.
