Trouble Shooting for Cathodic Protection Systems of An Oil & Gas Station in Central Asia

    • The cathodic protection (CP) for buried structures in oil and gas stations is very difficult due to the complex buried structure and the effect from grounding system. Some existing cathodic protection systems are not in good condition, and can not ensure the efficient protection for buried pipelines in oil and gas stations. In order to figure out the reasons of cathodic protection system failure, the trouble shooting for the cathodic protection systems in some gas stations in central Asia was studied. The cathodic protection effects in different stations, the actual buried structure and the potential distribution were investigated. The CP current distribution and power output were adjusted accordingly. The problems were successfully resolved, and more homogenous protection potentials in the test points were achieved.
