Progress in Research on Corrosion Behaviour of Ultra-fine Grained Mg Alloys Fabricated by ECAP

    • Magnesium alloys have relatively poor corrosion resistance, which is actually one of the main obstacles to their application in practical environments. Equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) is one of the most effective techniques for fabricating ultrafine-grained (UFG) bulk magnesium alloys, which can significantly improve their corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties. This paper reviews recent research progress on corrosion behaviour of UFG magnesium alloys fabricated by ECAP, and discusses the corrosion mechanism of typical magnesium alloys (pure Mg, Mg-Al, Mg-RE). Some possible methods to improve their strength and corrosion resistance are preliminary explored.
