An Overview of Gas Adsorption and Corrosion of Uranium

The corrosion of uranium is related not only to its surface but also to its oxidized layer.The behaviors of various corrosive gases absorbed on uranium and its oxides are overviewed.The trend of theoretical research is highlighted.It is expected that the mechanism of the corrosion and protection for uranium will be understood further with the combination of theoretical and experimental methods to probe the adsorption,decomposition,reaction and permeation of gases on uranium.Consequently,the applied technique for uranium protection will be improved.
