Inhibition Effect of N, N-dimethyl Ethanolamine in Simulated Concrete Pore Solution

    • N, N-dimethyl ethanolamine(DMEA) was studied as rebar inhibitor in simulated concrete pore solution. Its inhibition effect was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results of both measurements were in good agreement. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing the inhibitor concentration. The immersion test in salt solution showed that DMEA provided efficient protection to steel rebar. With adding 1% sodium gluconate of the total amount of cement to the DMEA-containing concrete, the setting time was closest to that for the control group.
