Abstract
The effects of concentration and corrosion time of sulfuric acid and content of montmorillonite on the corrosion rates of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate)/montmorillonite composite, prepared by emulsion polymerization,in sulfuric acid were studied using weight loss testing method. The corrosion rate of the composite containing 2%~3% montmorillonite was lower obviously than that of pure PMMA when the concentration of sulfuric acid was low and time of corrosion was short, the corrosion rates of both PMMA and its composite decreased with the increasing of corrosion time, while increased with the increasing of the concentration of sulfuric acid. The longer the corrosion time or the higher the concentration of sulfuric acid, the weaker the barrier ability of montmorillonite layer in the composite.
