Anti-corrosion Mechanism of Rust Layers with Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance

More Information
  • Received Date: March 19, 2008
  • During the initial corrosion period, the growing rule and anli-corrosion mechanism of rust layers with atmospheric corrosion resistance had been studied for a weathering steel and a carbon steel, using an accelerate industrial atmospheric corrosion test of dry-wet cyclic immersion.SEM and XRD were used to measure the rust layer structure. The results showed that;during the initial corrosion period, the composition of rust layers of the weathering steel was mainly α-FeOOH and that of the carbon steel was mainly Fe2O3.The dentrite of α-FeOOH is fine and the rust layers are compact and protective. The dentrite of Fe2O3 is big and the rust layers are loose, porous and non-protedive.
