Automatic Thickness Measuring Scan of Corrosion Induced Wall Thinning of Large Tanks

    • Large waste solution tanks in nuclear power plants are usually protected by painting both inside and outside. Degradation, such as peeling and damaging, may occur as time passing. Systemic thickness monitoring and inspecting of these tanks contain several concerns including complexity, time consuming and potential radiation contamination. An effective method, automatic scan system, can be used to both systematic inspection and pointing or tracking inspection. Application of this technique to waste water tanks have some advantages including high efficiency, short term, minimized field risk, direct image result and high resolution. This technique is quite suitable for detecting and analyzing the wall thinning caused by corrosion, erosion and abrasion.
