Failure Analysis of Oil-gas Transportation Pipelines in a High Temperature and High Pressure Gas Field Containing CO2

Abstract
Some failed oil-gas transportation pipelines in a large scale gas field was analyzed by SEM, energy spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and metallographic examination. The results show that the corrosion product was loose and the main component was FeCO3. The cause of the oil-gas transportation pipelines failure was the result of both the corrosion of CO2 dissolved in water in natural gas and the erosion of the high speed fluid on the pipe wall. Some corresponding measures were proposed for safe production of the field.
