Abstract
The corrosion behaviors and blood compatibility of a newly developed Mg-Nd-Zn-Zr magnesium alloy (JDBM) coated with hydroxyapatite(HA) by the pulse electrodeposition process were studied. JDBM alloy showed better corrosion resistance after surface modification, and the coating maintained good integrity after immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution for 10 days. Hydrogen test showed that HA-coating had good protective effect on the substrate in bionic corrosive environment. And JDBM alloy with HA coating caused little variation of pH value. Hemolysis test also showed that both JDBM alloy and JDBM coated with HA had good blood compatibility. The results demonstrate that the JDBM alloy is a promising magnesium alloy that can be applied as a degradable biomaterial.
