Comparation of Corrosion Behavior of Two Kinds of Aluminum Bronze in Neutral Salt Spray

    • The corrosion behaviors of two kinds of high-strength and wear-resistant novel aluminum bronzes (KK1 and KK3) were studied by neutral salt spray, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray detector. The results showed that in the initial stage the average corrosion rate of the tested materials decreased with the increase of exposure time, then kept constant after testing for 168 h. In the neutral salt spray atmosphere, KK3 alloy had better corrosion resistantce than KK1 alloy. Pitting corrosion was found on the surface of KK3 alloy, while no pitting corrosion was found on KK1 alloy. The results of SEM showed that selective corrosion occurred in both alloys. The block β′-phase in the KK1 alloy was one of the key points which made the difference of the corrosion resistance of the two alloys.
