Electrochemical Behavior of Carbon Steel in Sedimentary Water from Crude Oil Storage Tank

    • Polarization curve method was used to explore the electrochemical behavior of carbon steel in sedimentary water on the floor of crude oil storage tank and its simulation environment, the effects of main ingredients of the sedimentary water, temperature and pH on the corrosion of carbon steel were studied. The results show that elevated temperature could promote the corrosion of carbon steel, the rate of corrosion was the lowest when pH was 7~8. The presence of Cl- could greatly contribute to the corrosion of carbon steel. HCO3- could accelerate corrosion of carbon steel and SO42- could slow down the rate of corrosion in their each mixed solution with Cl-.
