Titanium-salt Conversion Coating on AZ31B Magnesium Alloy

    • An environmental friendly chemical conversion coating treatment process, in which AZ31B magnesium alloy was passivated with tiatnium salt rather than chromate, was studied. The anti-corrosion ability of the conversion coating was evaluated by salt spray and polarization curve tests. The surface morphology, element constituents of the conversion coating were studied through SEM and EDS. The results showed that a titanium-containing oxide conversion coating was formed after treated by titanium-salt solution and the coating provided good corrosion protection to AZ31B magnesium alloy.
